Lining the facebow up with the pupils of the eyes.

Studies have shown us that the earbow/facebow transfer very accurately duplicates the hinge axis of the joints--to within a millimeter.  (Let me know if you would like the studies).  This addresses the esthetic concern of a non-symmetrical face.  Lab technicians use the benchtop as a reference point to fabricate restorations.  By mounting the case with a facebow parallel to the pupils of the eye, the lab technicians successfully use the benchtop which is now parallel with the eyes.  Otherwise, restorations can be returned canted.

Please do not hesitate to let us know if you have any further questions.  I hope to meet you at a future seminar.

Not considered though profoundly relevant is the role of Cranial Osteopathic Distortions/Strain Patterns in the appearence of the pitch, roll and yaw of the maxilla when we mount casts with a face bow. This can lead to development beautiful occlusionsnot fully in harmony with the body as a whole.
